Interoperable Self-Installation Developer Center
Create devices that install themselves—without a network management
tool!
With the Interoperable Self-Installation (ISI) protocol, LonWorks devices
can self-install automatically or at the push of a button. If you're
a LonWorks device manufacturer, you'll find this new application-layer
protocol can open new markets for you—including the fast-growing,
price-sensitive sensor/actuator mass market.
The ISI protocol is also the only interoperable self-installation tool
model that can transition to a managed network, where a network management
tool configures all devices. |
Features
- Supports up to 32 devices for simple networks
- Supports up to 200 devices for networks with a simple domain address server
- Leverages LonMark standards to allow devices from different manufacturers to work together
- Enables network isolation for power line networks
- Allows simple or complex connections among devices
- Installs simply and reliably, even if many devices are off when new ones are added
- Operates on top of the ANSI/CEA-709.1 (also known as ISO/CEN EN14908) Control Network Protocol
- Can transition to a managed network

Documentation
Development
You can develop ISI devices with the NodeBuider 3.1 Development Tool or the new Mini EVK Evaluation Kit. NodeBuilder 3.1 users must download and install the ISI Developer's Kit 3. The ISI Developer's Kit and the Mini EVK both include an ISI library that manages the ISI protocol and simplifies ISI device development. ISI Example Neuron C Applications are available for download. These examples are included with the Mini EVK Evaluation Kit, but are made available separately for NodeBuilder® 3.1 Development Tool users.
Licensing
ISI is a licensed protocol. The ISI Developer's Kit and the Mini EVK include a royalty-free license for using the ISI library with Echelon transceivers.
- If you want to produce devices that incorporate the ISI library and Echelon transceivers, you'll need to sign a Revision J or newer OEM License Agreement in order to receive a royalty-free license.
- If you want to create your own implementations of the ISI protocol, you'll need to sign an Echelon ISI Protocol License Agreement.
To get a copy of either license agreements, please contact your local sales representative.
